A Japanese designer has come up with a novel way to address personal safety in the face of street crime - use urban camouflage. Aya Tsukioka's Coke-machine dress allows the wearer to quickly change appearance to that of a vending machine - blending into the urban landscape. Tsukioka designs faux vending machines for people who are concerned about street crime. The skirts go for $800 a pop. The New York Times says Tsukioka designed a backpack that turns into a fake fire hydrant and a handbag that masquerades as a manhole cover. “These ideas might strike foreigners as far-fetched, but in Japan, they can become reality,” the designer tells the Times. |
